Letter – You can make a difference

You can make a difference! You’ve often heard these remarks: “My input doesn’t mean anything.” “My vote doesn’t count.” “I’m only one person, so I can’t have any influence.” Don’t believe it.

To the editor:

You can make a difference!

You’ve often heard these remarks: “My input doesn’t mean anything.” “My vote doesn’t count.” “I’m only one person, so I can’t have any influence.”

Don’t believe it. You can make a difference. This was recently proven by the determined work of many, including Carlos residents, Carlos Fire Department, Carlos First Responders and the county’s Safe Communities Coalition.

People who were and are very concerned of the deaths, accidents and injuries at or very near the Carlos Corners intersection didn’t give up.

Even a letter from our county board to Carol Molnau of MnDOT four years ago, received the response: “That intersection will not be considered until the year 2015.”

With hard work and determination, now MnDOT will be installing the very newest stop signs on Highway 29 within the next two months. These new signs have LED lights surrounding them. Additionally, there will be signs telling of the stop signs coming up. Also, by fall, MnDOT will be putting lighting at that corner to add to the safety.

Thanks to each and every one who was instrumental in this resolution. Remember, you can be heard. Your input does matter.

Bev Bales, Douglas County Commissioner

Carlos, MN
