Organizers of the Alexandria Ice Fishing Challenge are getting set for their big tournament Saturday, February 7.
They’re asking for volunteers to drill holes on Friday, February 6. Just show up at noon Friday at the Krueger’s Creek access on Lake L’Homme Dieu.
If you have an auger, bring it, otherwise, there will be extra ice augers available.
Those who help will be included in a drawing for 10 free passes.
The recent cold weather has made for excellent ice conditions in the Alexandria area, according to tournament organizers.
Approximately 4,000 people are expected to take part in the event, which runs from noon to 3 p.m. A total of $100,000 worth of prizes is on the line, including a new Ford pickup.
Fishermen are urged to bring an ice chisel to chip out their hole.
This year’s tournament will also have a public address system operating on FM radio so people should also remember to bring along an FM radio.
Tickets are still available online at icefishingchallenge.org and at Alexandria area bait shops, as well as on the ice the day of the tournament.
