Girls' basketball: Silverstreaks dominate Johnnies
The Osakis girls’ basketball team held St. John’s Prep to just two second-half points on its way to an easy 76-17 Prairie Conference win last Thursday night.
Claire Arnolds scored the only basket for the Johnnies in the second half, while the Silverstreaks put up 30 to add to the 31-point lead they took into the break.
“The girls played really hard tonight,” head coach Pat Kalpin said. “It was nice to see the balanced scoring that we had. Rachael Grundman, Whitney Lee and Alicia Wagner shot the ball very well from the perimeter.”
Lee and Wagner both scored 13, and Grundman added 11 points, including three three-pointers in the first half. Kelsie Larson led the Osakis offense with 14 points.
The Osakis defense made it easy for the Silverstreaks on this night, though. The 17 points is the second least amount of points they have given up this season. Osakis held Swanville to 12 points on December 12. They collected 21 steals against the Johnnies on Thursday.
“Defensively, we keep improving each game,” Kalpin said. “It’s fun to see the great strides these girls are making.”
The win pushed them to 7-0 in conference play and 10-4 overall.
