Chamber honors key contributors to community at annual banquet

The community-helping efforts of several local residents were saluted at the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce annual awards banquet.

The community-helping efforts of several local residents were saluted at the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce annual awards banquet.

Jill Blashack Strahan and Joani Nielson of Tastefully Simple were presented with the prestigious “Friend of the Chamber” award.

Tastefully Simple paid for the new 1,000-pound lighted sign, which was placed along Highway 29 South last month. The sign project was in the works for about a decade until all the planning and work came together.

Craig Andrews, Alexandria School District 206 technology director, received the “Outstanding Educator” award at the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet.

Andrews’ nomination included a variety of achievements:

•He directs the district’s technology services department, providing approximately 4,000 students and 650 staff members with technology tools to improve teaching and learning.

•He’s an outstanding role model for young people as he dedicates numerous hours of his time to various community activities.

•He’s a positive role model for young people through church service activities.

•He’s a board member of the Alexandria Schools Credit Union.

The “Outstanding Business Award” was given to Alexandria Orthopaedic Associates, PA.

The company was recognized for the following efforts:

•Partnership with Jefferson High School activities department since 1994.

•Provides medical care coverage for football, volleyball, hockey, basketball, gymnastics, and wrestling high school contests.

•Company employees and/or management team are involved in a variety of education-related efforts.
