Junior varsity, sophomore results

JV girls’ basketball

The JV girls’ basketball team picked up its sixth win Tuesday night against Moorhead 42-28.

The Cards applied full court pressure early to slow their opponent down. This allowed for transition buckets, which set the tone for an energized evening of play.

The combo JV/B squad executed well in the half court as well.

JV boys’ hockey

The boys’ JV hockey team hosted Sauk Rapids Tuesday night, winning 4-1 over the visitors.

Scoring for the Cardinals were RJ Robinson with two goals, while Myles Bjelland and Nick Swanson each scored a goal.

Picking up assists on the goals were Reed Resch, Andrew Hittle (2 assists) and Nick Swanson.

JV swimming and diving

The boys’ JV swimming and diving team beat Sartell last night, 107-40.

The Cards posted nine wins in 11 events.

Individual winners were Ben Roers (200 free-2:14.16), Will Sieling (200 IM-2:25.14), Ben LeVahn (50 free-26.30), Colin Larter (100 fly-1:05.91), Peter Brackin (100 free-57.22), Jefferson Brand (500 free-6:42.63), and Bryce Bowser (100 back-1:09.09).

The Cardinals also recorded 16 season bests, two by Larter, Bowser, Austin McCulloch, and John Vinje.

The most noteable improvements came from Larter, dropping three seconds in the 100 Fly, McCulloch, shaving four seconds in the 100 Free, Bowser’s two second drop in the 100 Back, and Vinje, bettering his 100 Breaststroke time by two seconds.

JV boys’ basketball

The JV boys’ basketball team traveled up 94 to take on Fergus Falls, winning 61-55.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead behind great team defense.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Cardinals were disciplined, playing good team basketball and making the extra pass.

They took a 32-18 lead into halftime.

In the second half the Otters never gave up, cutting into Alexandria’s lead.

Sophomore

boys’ basketball

The sophomore boys’ basketball team (5-4 on the season) dropped a game on the road Tuesday to Fergus Falls 72-60.

Using full court pressure, the Otters jumped out to an early lead.

The Cardinals used the duration of the first half to battle back, going into the locker room down five.

To start the second half, the game continued to go back and forth with the Cardinals unable to close the gap.

Midway through the second the Otters went on a run to extend the lead to double digits, and the Cardinals were unable to answer.

JV Nordic ski

Mitch Evink finished first for the Cardinal junior varsity boys’ Nordic ski team at Saturday’s invitational.

Evink had a time of 10:26, while Peter Olson, who was third, had a time of 11:02.

Sam Olson finished 14th in13:56 and Dereck Buss was 15th in14:04.

For the girls’ team, Amanda Schmitz finished first in 12:19.

Sophomore

On Friday night the sophomore boys’ basketball team fell to Sartell 50-31 after trailing 24-17 at the half.
