JV girls’ basketball

The JV took third in their home holiday tournament, falling to Marshall 53-30 and defeating Moorhead 37-30.

Against Marshall, the Cards struggled to handle their full court pressure, resulting in turnovers.

A cold afternoon from the free throw line, 7-17, was also a factor.

The Cardinals were able to handle a full court press by Moorhead in the second game, taking better care of the ball.

Rebounding also proved to be a key to the win.

Sophmore Lauren Trumm led the crew with 11 points both days.

JV boys’ basketball

The JV boys’ basketball team hosted St. Cloud Apollo on Saturday night, defeating the Eagles 54-45.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead, only to see the Eagles come back with a run of their own to take the lead at halftime 25-23.

In the second half, Alex came out in a 2-3 zone trying to slow down the Eagles’ big man inside.

The Cardinals were able to take advantage of the Eagles’ poor shooting by rebounding and converting on some easy baskets at the other end.

Sophomore

boys’ basketball

The sophomore boys’ basketball team dropped to 3-3 on the year with a loss to St. Cloud Apollo over the weekend.

The Cardinals got out to a quick start and early lead, but went into the locker room at half time with the score knotted up at 20.

To start the second half, Apollo went on a 7-0 run, putting the Cardinals in catch-up mode.

Down three, the Cardinals had three good looks to tie, but came up short with time running down.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by Dylan Galligan with 14, Luc Beireis nine and Mitch Ronning six.

JV wrestling

Charlie Olson, Adam Klinkner, Dalton Frovarp, Cody Erkkila and seventh grader Jacob Schlitgen all picked up wins for the Cardinals Tuesday night against Rocori.

JV boys’ hockey

The Alexandria boys’ JV hockey team traveled to St. Cloud Tech Tuesday night, losing 2-0.

The Tigers dominated play in the first two periods, but the Cardinals rebounded for a strong third period.

Reed Resch played very well for the Cardinals, along with goaltenders Matt Burow and Dominic Wysoski.

Burow and Wysoski shared the goaltending duties and kept Alexandria in the game in the first two periods.

B squad

girls’ basketball

The Alexandria B squad girls got back into action with a hard fought 28-25 win over the Spartans of Rocori.

The Cards led throughout, and while struggling at times with the Spartan zone defense, the Lady Cards more than made up for it with their own strong defense, getting steals and lay-ups at crucial points in the game.

Lauren Trumm led the Cards with nine, Whitney Gessel had eight, Cara Wood five, Bri Ebert four, Joie Warnes and Jenna Wyffels each had one.
