Alexandria student-athletes Alicia Montbriand and Jim Ahlquist were both nominated to represent their school in the Academics, Arts and Athletics (AAA) program in Section 8A competition recently.

Winners of the AAA program are students who participate in Minnesota State High School League athletic programs, fine arts activities and carry a 3.0 or higher grade point average.

Montbriand is involved in volleyball, basketball and softball and was named co-captain of the basketball team this season. She is also involved in band, choir and performs with the orchestra during concerts.

Montbriand does all this while being an “A” honor roll student, a Spotlight on Scholarship Athlete, Central Lakes Conference scholar athlete, an academic all-state volleyball recipient and a member of the National Honor Society.

Ahlquist is also an “A” honor roll student, a Spotlight on Scholarship Athlete, a Central Lakes Conference scholar athlete and a National Honor Society member. He is involved in both football and track and was selected captain of the football team this fall.

Ahlquist was also an honorable mention All-CLC performer in track last year. His fine arts involvements includes pep band, marching band, symphonic winds and performing with the orchestra during concerts.

Both Montbriand and Ahlquist will advance to the section competition where they will be honored at the Section AAA recognition banquet at Cragun’s Resort on March 1. Section winners will then advance to the state competition.
