Shirley was born March 7, 1928 to Raymond and Frances (Wolf) Shie in Minneapolis. She grew up in St. Paul, where she attended public school. Following her education she worked at Montgomery Wards before working at Northern Pacific Hospital as a switchboard operator and secretary.
She was united in marriage to Virgil F. Reger on September 5, 1959 in St. Paul. Following their marriage they continued living in St. Paul for four years. They moved to a farm near Inspiration Peak in 1963, where they lived and farmed. In 1986, they moved into Urbank to care for Virgil’s mother. Shirley’s husband, Virgil, died in 1998. She continued living in Urbank until 2007 when she moved to live at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and the Urbank Seniors. She enjoyed bingo, going to casinos, crocheting, playing cards, reading and flower gardening.
Shirley is survived by a daughter, Margaret (Craig) Johansen of Fergus Falls; two sons, Michael (Jennifer) Reger and Richard (Lisa) Reger, both of Clitherall; a brother, Ronald Shie of St. Paul; four grandchildren, Chase Johansen, Samantha Reger, Alexis Reger and Joshua Reger; her dear friend, Florence Fruth of Urbank; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister-in-law, Jean Shie.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank with the Rev. LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Music was provided by the church choir. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hugo Revering Jr., Leon Revering, Randy Shie, Dan Reger, Tom Wagner and Bob Reger. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.
