Osakis' Larson ties state wrestling record

Tying the state record for the fastest fall, Osakis senior Wendell Larson moved up to heavyweight, dropped Charles Johnson of Ottertail Central to the mat and pinned him in just four seconds.

Tying the state record for the fastest fall, Osakis senior Wendell Larson moved up to heavyweight, dropped Charles Johnson of Ottertail Central to the mat and pinned him in just four seconds.

Larson put himself in the Minnesota record books with that time, just the third wrestler in state history to pin an opponent in four seconds.

Nathan Bipes of McLeod West did it in 1997 and Tamir Khalil of Spring Lake Park repeated that feat in 1998.

Larson also recorded his 100th career victory on Saturday, December 13 while wrestling at 215 pounds in the Brainerd Paul Bunyan Invitational where he finished third.

Despite Larson’s finish, the Silverstreaks fell to Ottertail Central 41-30.

Osakis gave up five pins to the Bulldogs early in the match as Ottertail Central racked up a 41-12 lead before the Silverstreaks closed out the match with three straight wins.

Todd Berberich, Cole Erie, Jesse Becerra and Larson all picked up pins, with Trenton Johnson winning by forfeit.
