Carlos Lions help charities

Over the past three years, the Carlos Lions Club has donated nearly $75,000 to charity.

Over the past three years, the Carlos Lions Club has donated nearly $75,000 to charity.

These charities include families with catastrophic medical expenses, schools, programs for the handicapped, churches, medical research organizations, youth programs and the city of Carlos. The club is also the sponsor of the Carlos Cub Scout Troop.

These donations have been made possible from the charitable gambling income the club has realized over the past three years, according to members.

Charitable gambling includes pull tabs at Herby’s in Carlos and Eddy’s Interlachen Inn, as well as bingo at the Carlos Town Hall.

Any charity serving Carlos area residents may request donations from the club by contacting any Carlos Lions member.

Here’s a summary of the club’s charitable contributions:

Families with catastrophic medical expenses – $2,100.

Carlos Elementary School – $6,000.

High school programs – $1,250.

Programs for handicapped and Special Olympics – $4,800.

4H and Scouts – $1,900.

Heart, cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis organizations – $5,300.

Churches, Red Cross, and The Salvation Army – $2,100.

Children’s recreation and health programs – $4,129.

Listening Ear programs – $1,325.

Jingle Bells – $1,250.

Ronald McDonald House – $800.

City of Carlos building and recreation – $41,000.

Lions programs for sight, hearing, diabetes – $2,948.

Total – $74,902.
