Snow buries county, closes some businesses

Mother Nature has once again dumped on Alexandria and surrounding areas. Snow accumulations are expected to be six to 10 inches with 15 inches possible in some areas.

Snow accumulations are expected to be six to 10 inches with 15 inches possible in some areas.

The white fluffy stuff is expected to continue across much of Central Minnesota and West Central Wisconsin today. In fact, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. today for Douglas County.

Because of the wintry weather, some area businesses are closed or will be closing shortly.

Shortly before 2 p.m. today, December 30, the Alexandria Senior Center has closed and noted there will be no Meals on Wheels or Senior Dining today.

The blood drive scheduled at Calvary Lutheran Church was cancelled, as well as the 5 p.m. mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.

Businesses that are closed or those that will be closing shortly include:

•Broadway Medical Center in Parkers Prairie.

•Trumm Drug in Parkers Prairie.

•Common Threads in Garfield.

•Douglas County Library will be closing at 4:30 p.m.

•Bremer Bank in Alexandria.

•Midwest Clinic of Dermatology.

•Jackie J’s in Alexandria will close at 3 p.m.

•Cowing Robards Sports Store and Cowing Robards Decorating Center will close at 4 p.m.

•First State Bank in Alexandria, Carlos and Miltona will close at 4 p.m.

Other area cancellations include:

•The Knute Nelson “Books are Fun” book fair in Alexandria was cancelled.

•The Forada Supper Club’s “All You Can Eat Chicken Buffet” scheduled for this evening.

•The Douglas County 4-H Ambassadors and Friends bowling event at the Garden Center is cancelled for this evening.

•The Evansville American Legion bingo that was scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. is also cancelled.
