Looking to get involved in your community? One way is to fill a local Special Olympics Minnesota volunteer position.
They are looking for a three-year commitment. There is no experience necessary, as Area Sports Management Team (ASMT) training is provided. All volunteers must understand and promote the mission, goals and philosophies of Special Olympics Minnesota.
Administrative coordinator
Coordinate overall functions of ASMT with area sports coordinator, recruit and provide ongoing direction and evaluation of the administrative component chairs of the ASMT, ensure administrative component chairs receive position training through state office, act as interim manager for any open position(s) in the administrative component of the ASMT, coordinate overall preparation and administration of budget, coordinate and facilitate athlete placement process, plan, organize and facilitate a minimum of six ASMT meetings per year, review and monitor area and local financial reports, attend state level competitions that reflect area offerings when possible and attend meetings and trainings as required by the state office.
Sports coordinator
Coordinate overall functions of ASMT with area administrative coordinator, recruit and provide ongoing direction and evaluation of the sports component chairs of the ASMT, ensure sports component chairs receive position training through state office, act as interim manager for any open position(s) in the sports component of the ASMT, develop and manage an area sports calendar that includes sports education and competition schedule that reflects the needs of the area, understand and promote SOMN Coaches Certification Program, coordinate area and state competition registration including quota requests and distribution, attend state level competitions that reflect area offerings when possible, plan and facilitate a minimum of two coaches meetings per year, advocate for the development of additional sports and competitions at the area level, actively participate in the development and administration of the area budget and attend meetings and trainings as required by the state office.
