Weisel's 28 years on council ends with round of applause

The Alexandria City Council gave a standing ovation send-off Monday night to long-time city council member Harvey Weisel, who has served Ward 3 residents for 28 years.

The Alexandria City Council gave a standing ovation send-off Monday night to long-time city council member Harvey Weisel, who has served Ward 3 residents for 28 years.

Owen Miller, the winner in the November election, will be taking over Weisel’s position at the start of the new year.

Weisel thanked city staff for following through on the council’s orders and policies with professionalism over the years. He also thanked his fellow council members and all the past members he had the privilege of working with.

“Even if we disagreed at times, we did not become disagreeable,” Weisel said.

He thanked the news media for reporting about the council’s decisions.

He also thanked Miller for the professional way he handled his election victory. “The transfer will feel good,” Weisel said.

The council presented Weisel with a plaque at a holiday open house at city hall last week.
