Students at Sue Lundblad’s 3rd grade class at Voyager Elementary School in Alexandria were treated to cookies last week – and insights into Saint Lucia, portrayed by Olivia Mikkelson.

Last Friday, Voyager Elementary 3rd grade students colored Dala horses and enjoyed Swedish pepperkaker handed out by Olivia Mikkelson. They learned about Santa Lucia Day, which is celebrated in Sweden each December 13.
Students at Sue Lundblad’s 3rd grade class at Voyager Elementary School in Alexandria were treated to cookies last week – and insights into Saint Lucia, portrayed by Olivia Mikkelson. Lucia, a Christian martyr of the fourth century, is venerated as a patron saint of those who are blind. In Scandinavian countries, young girls dress as Lucia, whose name is associated with light, and they celebrate a feast in her honor during the longest night of the year in December. Students also learned about Hanukkah and other holidays around the world.
