An 88-year-old man from Brandon died following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on County Road 82 less than one mile east of Brandon.
The crash, which took place shortly before 3:30 p.m., involved a tanker truck and a car.
When emergency crews arrived on scene, the driver of the car, Leslie Norman Hermanson, was deceased, according to authorities. Reportedly, the two vehicles hit head on. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
County Road 82 from Central Avenue in Brandon to County Road 56 was closed for more than an hour due to the accident.
Responding to the scene were Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol, Brandon Fire Department and First Responders and North Ambulance.
A lifelong resident of Brandon, Hermanson worked as a truck driver for many years, hauling cattle from around the area to stockyards in South St. Paul and later, driving bulk oil for Cenex.
In addition, he was a volunteer driver for Rainbow Rider.
Hermanson’s family said he “just loved to be driving somewhere.”
When not spending time on the road, Hermanson enjoyed fishing, both in the summer and the winter and according to family members, “He knew where to find the walleyes even when the ice was only an inch or two thick.”
He was actively involved with St. Petri Church, serving on the church council many times and was active with the cemetery board. His family said that whenever the church was having an event, Hermanson was always eager to participate.
In addition, Hermanson was active with the Brandon Lions Club, where he was a charter member.
A funeral service for Hermanson will take place at 2 p.m. this Saturday, December 20 at St. Petri Lutheran Church near Brandon.
Visitation will be today, Friday, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and one hour prior to the service at the church.
