Shannen Darwin Maus, 34, Osakis, died tragically in a car accident early Sunday, December 7, 2008 in rural Todd County.

Shannen was born in Alexandria on May 17, 1974, the firstborn son of Darwin and Carol Maus of Osakis. He attended Osakis schools, graduating with the class of 1992. On October 14, 1995 Shannen was united in marriage to Angela Potter at St. Mathews Lutheran Church in Danube.

Shannen had worked as a dock hand at Mick’s Resort and 2 Mile Campground while in high school and then attended Willmar Technical College for electronics. He moved back to Osakis and worked for Osakis Silo Company for two years and in 1995, took a job in Carlos at Continental Bridge. After a couple of years at Continental, Shannen returned to work for the Silo Company and then did some work for another Osakis business, Marquette Welding. In 2000, Shannen was excited to open a new family business with his father and brother called Maus Fabrication. This past fall, Shannen also became a bus driver for the Osakis School District.

Shannen was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alexandria. He became a proud member of the Osakis Fire Department in 2005 and also belonged to the Eagles Club.

Some of Shannen’s favorite pastimes included four-wheeling, snowmobiling, hunting, video games and doing mechanic work. He loved to spend time with his boys and valued his family time. He also loved to socialize with friends and was always the last one to leave any get-together. Smiling, joking and “talking with his hands” are traits that Shannen mastered. He was a hard worker, a fearless volunteer and a wonderful family man who will be dearly missed and always remembered by his family, neighbors and many, many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Angie Maus and their two sons, Mason and Tucker Maus of Osakis; father and mother, Darwin and Carol Maus of Osakis; brother, Shaun Maus of Osakis; two sisters, Kimberly Maus of Little Sauk and Kayla Maus of Osakis; his nephews, Joshua and Tyler Barhorst, Logan and Tyler Potter; grandparents, Dennis and Violetta Drexler of Carlos; mother-in-law, Donna (Leslie) Kruse of Alexandria; many relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Jess and Norma Maus and his father-in-law, Arnold Potter.

Funeral services for Shannen were held on Saturday, December 13 at Osakis Lutheran Church in Osakis with the Rev. Michael Neumann officiating. Organist was Jolene Sabrowsky. A eulogy, written by his sister, Kayla, was read by his sister-in-law, Sarah Potter. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Osakis with honorary casket bearers being the members of the Osakis Fire Department and the Osakis Public School bus drivers. Active casket bearers were Mike Reichmann, Jeff Klukken, Chris Eddy, Doug Pastian, Brian Fearing and Jeff Rach.
