Letter - Animals need help

A big thank you to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department for helping rescue a cat that had become frozen to the ice on the Long Prairie River when it tried to get a drink of water this past weekend.

To the editor:

A big thank you to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department for helping rescue a cat that had become frozen to the ice on the Long Prairie River when it tried to get a drink of water this past weekend. And thank you for ensuring my husband got out of the river safely. Thank you to the neighbor for all your help as well.

With the lack of water available during these cold months, wild animals often end up in life-threatening predicaments. We sometimes forget they can’t reach water and need our help.

Please remember to plug in an outside heated bowl this winter. Even the deer come to drink at mine, as well as birds and squirrels.
