Junior varsity, junior high and B squad results

JV boys’ basketball

The JV boys’ basketball team played their first conference game of the season against Brainerd, falling to the Warriors 45-43.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead by playing great team defense that led to transition baskets.

Brainerd responded by making a run at the end of the first half to cut the halftime lead to one 20-19.

In the second half, the Cardinals took a six-point lead with four minutes left.

The Cardinals struggled with turnovers all night long and in the final four minutes Brainerd was able to capitalize on their mistakes.

Sophomore

boys’ basketball

The sophomore boys’ basketball team improved to 2-0 with a win Tuesday night by defeating Brainerd 57-44.

It was a team effort with 11 players in the scoring column.

The Cardinals were led by Chris Curry, who posted 19 points. Dylan Galligan added 12, with Jordan Smith chipping in seven.

9th grade boys’

The 9th grade boys’ basketball team started out their 2008 season blazing, but the Brainerd Warriors proved to be the better team on the court Tuesday night as the Cards fell 47-32.

Leading the scoring for the A team was Cody Brant and Logan Serum with eight points each.

The B team also dropped a tough one by a 46-36 margin. Clayton Cozad led the scoring with 16.

Sophomore

girls’ basketball

The Cards B Squad traveled to Detroit Lakes, winning 49-45.

The Cards jumped out early with great energy and a tough full court press, and never relinquished the lead again except for a brief moment in the second half.

Mo Eigen was the defensive leader, getting several steals that led to lay-ups for her or her teammates, and Jenna Wyffels had a strong offensive output in the second half when needed, scoring seven straight points.

The Lady Cards were led in scoring by Lauren Trumm with 10, Jenna Wyffels eight, Mo Eigen seven, Lauren Johnson and Joie Warnes each had five, Cara Wood, Ali Haar, and Bri Ebert each had four and Sam Brown rounded out the scoring with two.

This win gives the squad a 3-0 record.

JV gymnastics

Alexandria 73.15, Moorhead 69.8

Vault: Kaitlin Rice captured third place with a 7.85 followed by Stacia Parkin, vaulting for the first time this year, taking fourth with a 7.8. Mariah Snyder and Kendra Donlea followed with fifth and sixth place honors.

Bars: Taylor Kaufmann did her first bar routine for the season and placed third.

Beam: A solid performance by Kaitlin Rice, who placed fourth with her 5.8 routine. Kendra Donlea and Kayla Wacholz took fifth and sixth place with a 5.3 and 5.1 respectively.

Floor: Kendra Donlea scored a 5.1 for third place, followed by Kayla Vanderveur fourth place, Kaitlin Rice fifth and Alyssa Jorud sixth place.

Other JV performers were Cassie Larkins, Shelby Steidl and Maria Clark.

Sauk Rapids 91.2,

Alexandria 77.2

Vault: Mariah Snyder and Jenna Steffl tied for fourth place with their handspring vaults. Kaitlin Rice took sixth place with a 7.6.

Bars: Second and third places went to Rachel Sjostrand and Kaitlin Rice.

Beam: Fifth place was earned by Kaitlin Rice with a 5.4 while Kristine Egenes was sixth with a 5.1.

Floor: Jenna Steffl captured third place honors with her 6.5, followed by Mariah Snyder in fourth place with a 5.6.

Kaitlin Rice took third place as an all around.
