Douglas County Auditor/Treasurer Tom Reddick talked about more than numbers during Tuesday’s county board meeting.
Before informing commissioners of the bonding situation with the public works project, Reddick made a statement about recent discrepancies estimating how much the building will cost:
“As we have worked through the process, we have worked to develop budgets, budgets based on estimates that are given to us by people that are credible.
“The only figures that I have are in my office. Several members of the public have asked for that information.
“I have shared that openly with anyone who’s asked. How they interpret, or what they do with that, I have no control.
“The information that comes out of the county auditor’s office is the latest information that is furnished to me.
“In all of this, we only have two figures that we know for sure. That is the cost of the contracts awarded and that of the property furnished.
“Now we are at a point in time where the board needs to make up its mind what that dollar amount should be.”
Reddick said the total cost of those two figures is $6,725,177.
