United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties is pleased to announce the date for the Chili Cook-off and Silent Auction.
The 11th annual event will take place Tuesday, October 14 at Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria with chili being served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The theme for this year’s event is “Chili International,” which organizers said should bring out the creativity in both the chili recipes and the decorations.
Chili judging starts at 10 a.m.
The silent auction, which begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m., will be featured center court and will showcase many valuable prizes and services donated by area businesses.
At last year’s event, more than $11,000 was raised from ticket sales for the chili and from the silent auction.
Tickets for the all-you-can-eat chili are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 years of age and younger. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the United Way office, 115 3rd Avenue West, or at the door on the day of the event.
For those wanting to participate in the chili cook-off, registration forms and information sheets are available on the United Way Web site at www.uwdp.org.
