The Alexandria boys’ soccer team is coming on in the final weeks of the season this year.
The Cardinals put together another good game on Monday when they welcomed Central Lakes Conference leader St. Cloud Tech to town for a game that featured sloppy conditions on a cool and rainy night in Alexandria.
The Tigers took the early lead, but the Cardinals came on in the second half to tie the game at 1-1. That is exactly how the game would end after two overtime periods as Alexandria moved to 2-0-2 in its last four games.
The Tigers went up 1-0 with 13:46 remaining in the first half when Ian Krafrick got into the open and ripped a shot off Scott Hennen’s hands and into the back of the net.
That is how the game stood at halftime, but Brady Miller did not wait long in the second half to tie things up. Just less than six minutes in, Miller took a pass from Kirby Nelson and fired the ball into the back of the net to tie the game.
Both teams got some quality scoring chances through the remainder of the half and into overtime. Neither team could convert on those chances, though, as things ended in the 1-1 tie.
It should be a big confidence boost for the Cardinals, who moved to 3-10-3 overall with the tie. Tech came into the contest winners of its last four games and 12-2-2 overall.
