Football: Cards travel to Little Falls tonight

The Flyers will be looking to break a 17-game losing streak

The Alexandria football team takes to the road one last time during the regular season tonight, Friday, before coming home to host Fergus Falls in the season finale.

The Cardinals have to make sure they do not look ahead to that game against the Otters with Little Falls welcoming them to town tonight.

The Flyers come into this contest in desperate need of a win. They are currently on a 17-game losing streak that extends back to the 2006 season. The Cardinals do not want to be the team that they end that streak against.

This season, Little Falls is 0-6 and have failed to hold an opponent to less than 30 points in any game this year. The Flyers are coming off a 42-24 loss to Fergus Falls last Friday where Otters’ quarterback Derek Hanson threw for three touchdowns against them.

The Cardinals are coming off a tough loss of their own after leaving Brainerd losers of a 42-14 game this past Saturday. In that game, Alexandria struggled with its kick and punt return coverage as the Warriors worked with a short field for much of the game.

Alexandria’s run defense has been a strength of the team for much of the year. The Cardinals held Rocori’s Nick Schneider to less than 100 yards the week before, but Brainerd’s Colby Ring got loose for 144 yards last weekend. He also put most of the Warriors’ points up on the board with four touchdowns.

Alexandria will try to correct all that tonight as the Cardinals go for their second win of the season. A win would give the team some momentum heading into the big home contest with Fergus Falls next Wednesday.
