Residents warned about phone scam

Residents should be on the alert for a phone scam.

Residents should be on the alert for a phone scam.

Someone claiming to be from Alexandria Light and Power (ALP) called a number of ALP customers Monday, threatening to disconnect their power if they did not immediately pay their past due accounts.

It’s a scam. ALP says it does not make phone calls of this type.

ALP’s advice: Ignore these calls and do not give out any personal information such as utility or bank account numbers over the phone.

Anyone who received this type of scam call should contact ALP at (320) 763-6501 or the Alexandria Police Department at (320) 763-6631.
