Knight gridders fall to Rams

Missed opportunities and big plays were the story of the game for the West Central Area football team last Friday as the Knights fell to Roseau, 34-21.

WCA racked up 467 yards of total offense but failed to score five times inside the Rams’ five-yard line. That proved to be costly as Roseau scored twice in the second period and three times in the fourth to come back from a 14-12 deficit after three.

The big play was again costly for the Knights. Four out of the five touchdowns the Rams scored came from 15 yards out or longer. Tyler Johnson got them started with a 25-yard reception for a score on a pass from Kevin Erickson.

That was the beginning of a huge day for Erickson. He added a touchdown on a 15-yard run later in the second quarter before putting the game away in the fourth with a 69-yard scamper to start the quarter and a 60-yard touchdown run to end the game. Erickson ran for a total of 242 yards on only 18 carries.

Eric Erickson got the Knights back in the game after two touchdowns by Roseau to start the fourth quarter. Eric Erickson’s 58-yard touchdown reception from Colten Blascyk helped cut the lead to 27-21 for the Rams. The 60-yard scoring play by Kevin Erickson made it all for naught, though, as the Knights fell to 1-2 on the season.

Blascyk had a good game for WCA in the losing effort. He threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-38 passing. Erickson was his primary target. He caught eight balls for 164 yards and the touchdown. Dayton Sternhagen led WCA on the ground with 95 yards on 17 carries, while Cole Amundson chipped in with 91 yards.
