Habitat for Humanity is recruiting families for homes

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County is hosting informational meetings for individuals and families interested in learning how Habitat works and to hear how they may be eligible to partner with the organization to build a simple, decent, affordable home in Douglas County.

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County is hosting informational meetings for individuals and families interested in learning how Habitat works and to hear how they may be eligible to partner with the organization to build a simple, decent, affordable home in Douglas County.

A meeting will be held at the Douglas County Library in Alexandria on Saturday, September 20 at 10 a.m.

Meetings will also be held in Brandon on Monday, September 15 at 7 p.m. at the Brandon Community Center, in Evansville on Tuesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, and in Carlos on Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m. at the Carlos Town Hall.

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1997 and has built 22 homes for sale to partner families.

Homeowner families are selected according to established criteria: need for housing, ability to partner with Habitat and ability to pay.

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. Partner families purchase the homes from Habitat with no-profit, zero-interest mortgages. Volunteers provide most of the labor. Tax deductible donations of money, land and materials are provided by individuals, organizations, churches, foundations and businesses.
