Cards rally past Eagles for 4-3 win
Girls’ soccer team comes back from 2-1 deficit to stay perfect this season
The Alexandria girls’ soccer team scored thee goals in the second half to overcome a 2-1 deficit and beat St. Cloud Apollo 4-3 last Thursday night.
The game was the first ever at Citizens Field in Alexandria and the Eagles came out strong on Alexandria’s home turf. Apollo scored first on an Andezu Orionzi goal from 15 yards out.
The Cardinals’ Olivia Rice then tied the game up with her first-ever varsity goal. Courtney Lynch scored another goal for Apollo to make it a 2-1 game going into the half.
Alexandria came alive in the second half. Shenae Morical and Nikki Hammond each finished off a breakaway by finding the back of the net to put the Cardinals up. Erin Wymore then gave them a cushion by capitalizing on a penalty kick late in the game to push Alex to a 4-2 lead.
That goal would turn out to be the difference in the game as Apollo scored with five minutes remaining to cut the lead in half.
The Cardinals outshot Apollo 14-7 in the game. They remained undefeated at 2-0 with the victory.
