Alexandria Extrusion teams up with state, ATC to provide job training

The Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded a $271,765 Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) grant to support customized quick response manufacturing training for Alexandria Extrusion Company employees.

The Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded a $271,765 Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) grant to support customized quick response manufacturing training for Alexandria Extrusion Company employees.

The training will help the company be more efficient and meet international competitive challenges.

The three-year training partnership includes Alexandria Extrusion Company, Alexandria Technical College, and the MJSP. Alexandria Extrusion will contribute more than $330,500 to fund the training project.

“As a result of this training, Alexandria Extrusion employees will better meet the demands of the international marketplace with an eye to reducing production costs and lead times,” said DEED Commissioner and MJSP Board Chair Dan McElroy. “Also, Alexandria Technical College will develop the capacity to deliver this new curriculum to other enterprises.”

Alexandria Technical College and the company will collaborate to provide advanced training and retraining to 185 employees.

Courses include robotics and integrated cellular manufacturing, CNC set-up and operation, welding technician, metrology and inspection technician, and principles of quick response manufacturing and implementation.

A mentorship program and comprehensive assessment of trainees’ needs will complement classroom training.

The MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.

Founded in 1966, Alexandria Extrusion Company is an ISO 9001:2000 certified supplier of aluminum extrusions. Alexandria Extrusion Company’s 150,000-square foot production facility is located in Alexandria. The company employs about 300 workers and is a major employer in Douglas County.
