Storm blows down wall

A storm that ripped through the area early Tuesday morning not only knocked down trees, damaged docks and displaced boats, it took down a concrete wall.

A single wall constructed Monday at the new elementary school on County Road 46 blew over in Tuesday’s storm, according to Tom Wieczorek, business manager for Alexandria School District 206.

The recently constructed wall was located in the early childhood wing.

Wieczorek said the blown-down wall doesn’t adversely affect the new school building project because it can be worked around.

“It’s just an act of God that we have to deal with,” Wieczorek said Thursday morning. “It won’t add any extra costs to the project and it shouldn’t affect the schedule.”

He also noted that the school district received clearance from its insurance agency to start cleanup work and continue moving forward on the project.
