Both the Alexandria Grey and Purple VFW baseball teams head into the weekend hoping to make a run in the District 5 VFW baseball tournament.

Both the Alexandria Grey and Purple VFW baseball teams head into the weekend hoping to make a run in the District 5 VFW baseball tournament.

Alexandria Purple enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the bracket. Morris will be the favorite as the No. 1 seed after going 10-0 in district play during the regular season.

The Purple beat New London in five innings in the opening round of Districts on Tuesday. All opening round games were played at the home field of the higher seed. The rest of the tournament will be played in Spicer from July 25-28.

The Purple take on either Madison or Ortonville tomorrow, Saturday, at 1:30 p.m.

The Alexandria Grey enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed. They opened district play in Willmar this past Tuesday with a 10-0 loss to Willmar I. That sent them to the losers’ bracket where they will play tonight, Friday, at 5 p.m.

The championship game of the District 5 tournament will be played on Monday at 6 p.m. If the team that advances out of the losers’ bracket wins that game, a second game will be played immediately after to determine the champion.
