Amid changing times, available volunteers and their schedules, the Knute Nelson Auxiliary voted recently to merge with the larger volunteer force at Knute Nelson to form a new group, “Friends of Knute.”
To commemorate and honor the Auxiliary and their efforts throughout the years, and also to celebrate the beginning of the Friends of Knute, a special event will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 24 in the Governor’s Room at Nelson Gables, 1220 Nokomis Street in Alexandria.
Anyone who is interested in learning more about the new group, “Friends of Knute,” and other volunteer opportunities is welcome to attend. A light lunch will be served.
RSVPs are appreciated to Judy Thielke, volunteer coordinator, at (320) 763-1162 or email@example.com.
The Knute Nelson Auxiliary was formed in 1962 to provide support for those living and working at Knute Nelson and the Auxiliarians’ contributions have been tremendous, according to Knute Nelson management.
Activities and the mission of Friends of Knute will mirror the efforts set forth by the Knute Nelson Auxiliary; however, men, women, and families of all ages are encouraged to participate.
Knute Nelson leaders said the decision was made after much discussion and consultation with other auxiliary and volunteer groups which are becoming more prevalent throughout Minnesota, according to the Health Care Auxiliaries of Minnesota.
Benefits of the combined group include strengthening efforts to better serve the residents and tenants of Knute Nelson and Nelson Gables, modeling compassion and service to younger generations, involving more individuals in volunteer programs for all generations, among others.
