Author of book about Michelangelo to visit Alexandria

Author Angela K. Nickerson will visit Cherry Street Books in Alexandria on Thursday, May 22 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Nickerson’s book, A Journey into Michelangelo’s Rome, was just released in April. This spring marks the 500th anniversary of one of the world’s best-loved works of art: Michelangelo’s frescoes on the ceiling of Rome’s Sistine Chapel.

A Journey into Michelangelo’s Rome follows Michelangelo from his arrival in Rome in 1496 to his death there almost 70 years later. Each chapter focuses on a particular work that stunned his contemporaries and continues to impress today’s visitors. One entire chapter is devoted to Michelangelo’s famous painting on the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling and another focuses on his extensive mar-ble carved sculptures.

Nickerson attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota and continued on to Washington University in St. Louis where she earned a masters of arts in teaching. She currently lives in Sacramento, California. Nickerson loves to travel and regularly leads tours to Rome and other cities in Europe. A Journey into Michelangelo’s Rome is her first book.
