Former Detroit Lakes resident Goldie M. Hoff, 95, of Sun City, Ariz., passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008.
Goldie Maxine Hazelton was born the daughter of Loren C. and Hattie (Woods) Hazelton on Jan. 13, 1913, in Racine, Minn. She grew up in Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1931. She married Donald J. Mylan of Frazee. They had three children. She later married Lee N. Tucker and they lived in Alabama, Mississippi, England, South Carolina, Alaska and Minnesota while Lee served in the U.S. Air Force.
When LTC Tucker retired from the military in 1966 they bought Shady Point Resort on Long Lake in Park Rapids. Goldie managed Wilson’s Woman's Clothing store in Park Rapids. Lee died in 1968. Goldie married Jacob W. Hoff in 1971, and they lived in St Paul until Jay retired from the St. Paul school system. Thereafter, they spent summers in Park Rapids and winters in Mesa. Jacob died in 2001.
Goldie was a life member of the Rebecca Lodge in Detroit Lakes and a member of the American Legion. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards and traveling. She also loved shopping and hosting family and friends.
Goldie is survived by her children, Skip (Marge) Tucker and Donald (Donna) Tucker, both of Sun City, and Judith (Robert) Dundervill of Virginia Beach, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Boyd Hazelton; and sisters Nina Handy Fuller, Frances Hostetler and Bessie Bordsen.
Graveside services will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
