Funeral services for Stanton Nelson were held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter Township. Pastor Theresa Kraft officiated at the services. Linda Sandbakken was the organist.
Honorary Bearers were Lonny Slagter, Don Ochs, Mike Ochs, and Bruce Ochs. Casketbearers were Tony Sachs, Kent Olson, Owen Schipnewski, Keith Holzheimer, Tony Gasterland, Derrick Nonweiler, Jessie Burmeister, and Vernell Larson. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Holloway.
Stanton Gary Nelson was born in Appleton on April 22, 1973 to Gary and Sharon (Beyer) Nelson. He was baptized on May 13, 1973 and confirmed on May 8, 1988, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway. He graduated from Lac qui Parle Valley High School in 1991 and then attended Ridgewater College in the parts and merchandising program.
From an early age Stanton’s first love was farming and he was actively engaged in farming at the time of his death. He also worked at West-Con for awhile and was employed by Mills Auto Parts Center in Willmar. On Jan. 13, 2003, he was married to Tammy Ochs in San Antonia, Texas.
More than anything he loved his two children and enjoyed watching their progress as they grew. He was a “hero” in the eyes of his children. Stanton loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and any project that would keep him outdoors. He was a very caring person always willing to help others.
Stanton died in a vehicle accident on Saturday evening, Nov. 29. He attained the age of 35 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy, and their two children, Hunter, five years, and Jaidyn, 16 months, of rural Dawson; his parents, Gary and Sharon Nelson, of Holloway; five brothers and sisters: Kenton (Becky) Nelson of Holloway, Kelly (Tim) Haag of Richmond, Matt (Jodie) Nelson of Atwater, Stewart Nelson of Big Bend, and Sonya (Jake) Allpress of Appleton; grandmother, Doris Beyer, of Holloway; “special” grandmother, Florence Nelson, of Appleton; his parents-in-law, Don and Delores (Harberts) Ochs, of Boyd; brothers-in-law: Bruce (Nancy) Ochs of Glencoe, Mike (Betty) Ochs of Olivia, and Steven Ochs of Willmar; several nieces, nephews, and several other family members.
He is preceded in death by an infant brother, Micheal; and grandparents, Gordon and Doris Nelson, and Vernon Beyer; and his uncle, Wayne Beyer.
