The annual Passion Drama presented by members of Zion Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran churches of Alexandria has been cancelled this year due to the weather.
Zion Lutheran Church will instead open its sanctuary on Sunday, March 24 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, March 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for anyone wishing to come and pray.
“We will be praying for our congregation, the Passion Drama, the community, and all other needs that you bring with you,” Hinz said. “I encourage you to bring your Book along…the Bible. Reread the Passion story as told by the various Gospel writers…do this in the sanctuary, remembering why you are there…and why He died.”
Also, in an effort to carry over a part of the drama, the churches will incorporate the crucifixion scene adjacent to the Guarding of the Tomb, which will go on as originally scheduled.
This scene will begin at 7 a.m. and run through 7 p.m on Good Friday, March 29, at which time Jesus will be taken down from the cross and laid in the tomb. The guarding of the tomb will then take place through Easter morning.
Everyone is invited to drive by to view the scene, or to park in the Zion parking lot at 3rd Avenue and Lake Street and walk up to the scene.
