Nordic skiing: Sieling, Flynn named most valuable

Julia Sieling and Pat Flynn were selected as the most valuable athletes for the Cardinal Nordic ski girls’ and boys’ teams at their recent year-end banquet. The two both earned Central Lakes All-conference honors this past season.

Also being named All-conference were Cody Call, Melissa Gromatka, Becca Mateer, with Eric Branch, Carl Branch and Lauren Hagstrom receiving honorable mention.

Call and Gromatka, both seniors, received the coaches’ awards, while C. Branch and Hagstrom were named the hardest workers.

Heidi Moe and Casey Call earned honors for being the most improved.

“[It is] sad to see our seniors go,” said head coach Jeremy Rapp. “[This] was a group that I got along well with, and I’ve been with them for quite a few years.”

Along with Call and Gromatka, the other Cardinal seniors include Adrianne Wensman, Hailey Haugen and Jesslyn Fearing.

“My assistant, Taylor Ellison, and I were pleased with the team chemistry this season,” Rapp said. “[We] have a great cast of skiers coming back next season, both ability and attitude-wise, [so we are] excited to see how they can do.”
