Letter - Pipeline needs action soonThe Keystone XL pipeline is one of the worst ideas the oil industry has ever tried to foist on the American people.
To the editor:
The Keystone XL pipeline is one of the worst ideas the oil industry has ever tried to foist on the American people.
This pipeline will take the tar sands through America, not to America. It will most likely carry oil for export. It will do little to lower our gas prices or create permanent jobs in the U.S. The money will go mostly to Canada and oil companies that invest there.
The oil industry receives huge subsidies from our tax dollars. Why don’t we redirect the subsidies to greener resources, such as wind and solar energy? This would also create more jobs than the XL Pipeline, and they will last longer.
Rejection of the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline is one of the most important and immediate executive steps that President Obama can take to address the climate crisis. You can write to him at The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500 or email him at email@example.com.
If we don’t take action soon, we are going to pay, and future generations will blame us for our inaction.
