UPDATE at 5:30 PM: Rain, snow make for sloppy Saturday in Alexandria area

Several crashes reported in Interstate 94, hazardous driving conditions to northeast

By: Amy Chaffins, Alexandria Echo Press

First came the rain, then the sleet and now, as of 5:30 p.m., it's still snowing...

A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Alexandria area through midnight. Three to five inches of snow is in the forecast.

All that heavy snow is piling up on top of sloppy puddles and wet roads and sidewalks.

As the sleet turned to snow earlier this afternoon, several crashes were reported on area roads. Several crashes were reported on Interstate 94, but no serious injuries. According to MnDOT, roads in the Alexandria area are in fair condition.

As of 5:30 p.m., MnDOT reports that roads in the Osakis area, and state highways to the northeast of there, are snow-covered and slushy with reduced visibility making for hazardous driving conditions.

Visit www.511mn.org for current road conditions.

Travel safely.
