Mystery novelist Jenny Milchman is one of seven authors participating

in the June 17-20 Mississippi River Creative Writing Workshop, an annual St. Cloud State Summer Sessions offering.

The workshop (ENG 445-545) will be facilitated in 51 Building by award-winning author and poet Bill Meissner, St. Cloud State director of creative writing and professor of English.

In addition to presentations, students will participate in writing exercises and interact informally with professional writers.

The two-credit workshop focuses on fiction, poetry and novel-writing. No writing experience or prerequisites are required.

Milchman's 2013 Ballentine Books mystery "Cover of Snow" earned a Booklist starred review: "This is a richly woven story that not only looks at the devastating effects of suicide but also examines life in a small town and explores the complexity of marriage."

Milchman, who hails from New Jersey, teaches for New York Writers Workshop and Arts by the People. She wrote seven unpublished novels before selling "Cover of Snow" to Ballentine, an imprint of Random House, Inc. She will present on the business of writing and publishing.

Also presenting are Pulitzer Prize nominee Marya Hornbacher, Minnesota Book Award winner Alexs Pate, PEN/Hemingway Award winner Susan Power, Midwest Book Award winner Bill Meissner, Minnesota Voices Award winner Margaret Hasse and novelist Shannon Olson, author of "Children of God Go Bowling.”
