Karen Blom took this photo of a cardinal eating sunflower seeds on the ground below the feeder in her front yard on Fillmore Street in Alexandria Sunday.

“Look closely and you can see the sunflower seed in its beak,” she said. “He showed up so radiant in the bright morning sunlight and seemed to enjoy posing.”
