A winter storm is causing some cancellations in Douglas County.

Because of the current and projected weather and road conditions, the following Alexandria School District 206 activities are cancelled:

--Discovery Middle School 8th and 9th grade bands and the DMS Jazz Band Concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight is cancelled.

--The Jefferson High School National Honor Society Induction Ceremony scheduled for tonight is also cancelled.

The Douglas County region is under a winter storm warning until noon on Tuesday.

Heavy snow is expected to return tonight as the storm increases in intensity after it reaches the St. Cloud and Mankato areas.

Snowfall totals will range from two to five inches tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition, northwest winds will increase to between 15 and 20 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 30 mph across west central and south central Minnesota. This will lead to some blowing and drifting of the fresh snow in open areas.
