Alex boys' basketball: Cards host Little Falls in playoff opener
The Alexandria boys’ basketball team won seven of its last eight games during the regular season to earn a second seed in the 8AAA South subsection.
The Cardinals (12-12) will open the tournament tomorrow night, Tuesday, by hosting third-seeded Little Falls (19-7) at 7. Alexandria beat the Flyers 46-43 when these two teams met in Little Falls on December 18.
Sartell (14-12) and Fergus Falls earned the top seeds in the South and North subsections, respectively. Sauk Rapids (2-24) rounds out the South subsection with the fourth seed and will take on the Sabres on Tuesday.
East Grand Forks (21-5) is seeded second in the North. Thief River Falls (19-7) is the third seed and Detroit Lakes (14-12) the fourth.
The winner between Alexandria and Little Falls will take on the winner of Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes on Saturday. That game will be played at Minnesota State University-Moorhead at 7:30 p.m. The Section 8AAA title game is set for 6 p.m. next Thursday, March 14, at St. Cloud State University.

SEMIFINALS – March 9 at Minnesota State University-Moorhead: Winner of Sartell/Sauk Rapids vs. winner of East Grand Forks/Thief River Falls, 6 p.m.; Winner of Fergus Falls/Detroit Lakes vs. winner of Alexandria/Little Falls, 7:30 p.m.
CHAMPIONSHIP – March 14, 6 p.m. at St. Cloud State University
