Boys' basketball: Osakis falls to Eagle Valley
By: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
Trailing by just three at the half, the Silverstreak boys had a chance to stay with Eagle Valley Tuesday night, but a second-half drought left Osakis on the short end of a 44-29 score.
“Their 3-2 zone caused us fits offensively,” said Silverstreak head coach Matt Hoelscher. “We didn’t play aggressive enough to attack the basket and when we play tentative, we tend to turn the ball over.
“We won’t win many games if we shoot 15 percent, and a lot of those shots came from inside the paint.”
Osakis managed just 18 second half points.
No player hit double figures for the Silverstreaks, who were led by Ky Zimmel, Drew Fearing and Doug Zimmel with six apiece.
The Silverstreaks will play West Central Area tonight, Friday, at home in their final regular season game.
Osakis received the No. 8 seed in the Section 6AA-North playoffs and will face top-ranked Melrose on Thursday in the opening round of playoffs.
