Boys' basketball: Ashby falls to Sauk Centre

It was not the way the Arrows wanted to end their regular season.
“We had a tough time keeping track of all their weapons,” said Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick of his team’s 87-48 loss to Sauk Centre Tuesday night. “They have a lot of good players that can beat you in different ways. It was a tough matchup for us tonight.”
The Arrows couldn’t contain Patrick Knoblauch, who finished the night with 28 points as the Mainstreeters ran to a 40-29 first half lead.
And when Knoblauch was covered, Sauk Centre turned to Nick Adams, who finished with 16 and Josh Bouschette, who added 13.
Ashby also struggled to find its shots Tuesday, hitting just 16-for-36 from the field for 36 percent, and only connecting on one of 10 from three-point range.
“I thought we started out the game with good intensity and played well most of the first half,” said Knick. “There were many times in that first half we could have cut their lead to single digits if we would have converted on some easy layups or open looks.
“We also could have kept it a little closer by limiting them to one shot, but we gave up some offensive boards, which hurt us that first half.”
Things looked a little better to start the second half as the Arrows hit their first shot to cut Sauk Centre’s lead to nine, but then picked up five quick fouls.
“That really hurt us, and then they were able to get out and put a huge run together,” said the Arrow coach.
Blake Ohren did his best to keep the Arrows in the game, scoring 13 points and pulling down three rebounds, and J.P. Moe also hit double figures with 10 points.
