Behind Annalise Savageau’s nine first-half points, the Silverstreak girls jumped to a 31-18 halftime lead over Prairie Conference opponent West Central Area Thursday night, rolling to a 66-30 win and the co-championship in the league.
Savageau finished the night with 21 points, including four shots from long range. She also had eight rebounds and a blocked shot.
“This was a great way to close out our regular season,” said head coach Pat Kalpin. “The girls played with great energy tonight and played well.
“It was a game that we needed to win to clinch a share of the conference title.”
Osakis’ Madi Forsell also did her part in the first half, notching eight and finishing the night with 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Becka Sadlemyer, who was one of five seniors being honored on Senior Night, had 11 points and three steals in the game.
“I thought from the start, the girls did a really nice job of moving the ball and taking good shots,” said Kalpin. “We had a stretch in the first half where the shots weren’t falling, but they were all good shots.
“The second half, those shots fell for us, opening the half up with a 20-3 run.
“It was fun to see every girl play tonight, but more importantly, every girl played well,” he added. “It was also our senior night, which made the night extra special for the team and the five seniors – Becka Sadlemyer, Danielle Chisholm, Rachelle Rajdl and Tayler Waldvogel.”
West Central Area’s Kelsey Hammer was the only Knight player in double figures, finishing with 15 points, 10 in the second half, while Christina Kruize added eight points, all in the first half.
Both Holly and Amber VanKempen fouled out for the Knights.
“Overall, a great last regular season game and overall, a great regular season for the team,” said the Osakis coach. “The girls are enjoying the successful regular season, but are excited for our section play to begin next week.”
Osakis finished with a 21-3 record and a 13-1 Prairie Conference mark, tying them for the championship with Upsala, which also finished 13-1.
The Silverstreaks open their Section 6AA play tomorrow night, Thursday, at home against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the quarterfinals.
West Central Area was 4-9 in Prairie play and opened Section 6A playoff action Monday when the Knights hosted Ashby. The winner of that game faces top seeded Parkers Prairie tomorrow, Thursday, on the road.
