Alexandria boys' basketball: Cardinals split

Alexandria’s defense continues to give the Cardinal boys a chance every night as they split their last two games in the Central Lakes Conference.

Alexandria held St. Cloud Apollo to 37 percent shooting (19-of-51) in a 53-49 win on Monday night. That came after the Cardinals had a five-game winning streak snapped in a 64-60 game at Willmar last Friday.

Logan Doyle dominated the paint against the Eagles to hold off an Apollo run in the second half. He had 26 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks. Doyle was incredibly efficient, shooting 12-of-18 from the field. Junior guard Brandon Bistodeau added 13 points as well.

Willmar completed the season sweep of Alexandria by winning a close game on its home court. Bistodeau led his team with 14 points, which included a 3-for-3 night from behind the arc. Alexandria shot 8-of-17 from three as Chase Kohler added three triples on his way to 11 points.

John Vogeler had 10 points. David Krivanek added nine and Doyle finished with nine points and 19 rebounds.

Alexandria will wrap up the regular season this Friday with a home game against Rocori. It’s an opportunity to finish at .500 after the Cardinals pulled their record to 11-12 with their recent stretch of wins.
