Anne “Nancy” Ward Cosco, age 61, died suddenly on Tuesday, February 19, 2013.
Anne “Nancy” Ward Cosco, age 61, died suddenly on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. She was born December 25, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Nancy is survived by her husband, John; mother, Margaret S. Ward; daughter, Tammy J. Stirratt; grandchildren, Alex, Nathaniel, Lily and Hannah; brother-in-law, Tom Cosco; sisters-in-law, Teri Horne and Ernette Cosco; numerous cousins and many wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by sons, Justin, Stephen and five babies through miscarriages; her father, Thomas Ward; grandparents; several aunts and uncles; and cousins.
Nancy and John married at Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown, PA on August 5, 1978, enjoying 34 wonderful years together. She was a loving mother and spouse. They lived in Kettering and Tiffin, OH; Grafton, WV; Salina, KS; and Alexandria, MN.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at Mt. St. Joseph College and a Master of Educaiton in reading at Xavier University, both in Cincinnati, Ohio. She completed post graduate studies at Friends University in Wichita; Emporia State University; Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina; and Bethany College in Lindsborg, all in Kansas. She was a life certified teacher in Kentucky with certifications in Ohio and Kansas.
A skilled elementary school teacher/reading specialist for 28 years, mainly teaching first grade in Cold Springs, KY; Kettering, Bucyrus and Tiffin, OH; and Salina, KS; she retired in 2004. She was devoted to Catholic education. Her gentle demeanor; deep spirituality and trust in the Lord; and handling the curves life threw her with grace and dignity inspired many.
Nancy’s hobbies included traveling, quilting, crafts and decorating. She volunteered for United Way. She enjoyed family, especially grandchildren, friends, and involvement with activities through Newcomers.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, February 26 at 5 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation was February 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Cheltenham, PA on Saturday, March 2.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Nancy’s earthly work is done. God, the Father, called her home where she is dancing with all of her children and her family. We love you and miss you. Adieu, my light, my life and my love, until we meet again in the presence of our Lord.
