Girls' basketball: Brandon-Evansville, Minnewaska fall
Brandon-Evansville’s two-point halftime lead disappeared as the Melrose girls turned up their offense, leaving the Chargers on the short end of a 51-42 score Tuesday night.
The Dutchmen also held the Chargers to 17 second-half points.
“The difference in the game was the turnover margin,” said head coach Dick Simpson. “They had six and we had 18, most unforced. They also outrebounded us and were able to drive on us.”
Elizabeth Vinson led Brandon-Evansville’s offense with 11 points, while Carlie Steffenson and Emily Friedrich had nine apiece.
Melrose was led by Gabi Sawyer’s 14 points and Emily Goerdt’s 16.
The Chargers are now 12-9 on the season and play Park Christian at home today, Friday. Brandon-Evansville, which has gone 12-4 down the stretch, starts playoffs at home on Thursday, taking on the winner of the Ashby/West Central Area game played Monday.
