Today is the day that people have been shivering for -- the Polar Bear Plunge on Lake Darling.
The plunge is presented by Minnesota law enforcement as part of the year-round Law Enforcement Torch Run events to benefit Special Olympics.
It offers a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympics athletes by jumping into frigid Minnesota waters.
It consists of 16 different events that take place across Minnesota from January through March.
The concept is simple: Participants raise a minimum of $75 and take a dip into one of Minnesota’s frozen lakes.
Alexandria’s event is set for today, Sunday, February 24 at 1 p.m. at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center.
A pre-plunge check-in event featuring a hog roast will take place on Saturday, February 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge in Alexandria.
Check-in the day of the event is 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the event site.
