Boys' basketball: West Central Area falls to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle

Ice cold from the field, the West Central Area boys were able to score just 11 points in the first half as they fell to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 44-35 Thursday night.

The Knights scored just 11 points in the first half as they shot only 31 percent for the game, hitting 11 of 35 attempts.

“Long Prairie plays a very different style of basketball,” said head coach Kraig Hunter. “They stall from the opening tip and try to beat you off the dribble once they get you spread out.

“They hit a bunch of kick out threes early and we were not attacking the basket on our end, leading to poor shooting for us. Therefore, we fell behind by double digits in the first half. In the second half, we played much better and got as close as 33-40, but ran out of time.”

Dakotah Kashmark and Jay Zimmerman each hit double figures for the Knights with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Both players also had six rebounds, with Kashmark adding three assists. Drew Peterson, who had just two points, had five rebounds, three assists and four steals.
