Alexandria girls' basketball: Cards use defensive pressure in win over Eagles
The Alexandria girls wrapped up second place in the Central Lakes Conference basketball standings with a 74-49 victory over St. Cloud Apollo Friday night. The Cardinals have just one conference game remaining, against Rocori tomorrow, Thursday.
Alexandria’s CLC mark is at 12-3, while Fergus Falls is undefeated in league play at 15-0.
“The Lady Cards came out flying on Friday night and jumped on the Eagles from the start, cruising to a solid victory at home in a CLC clash,” said head coach Wendy Kohler. “The Cards executed beautifully against the Eagle zone, getting great looks with solid teamwork and excellent passing.”
Alexandria held a 31-20 lead at the half, and raced past the Eagles for 43 points in the second half.
“[We] slammed the door shut on the Eagles in the second half with our depth, defensive energy and solid execution offensively, both getting out in transition and in the half court set,” said Kohler.
The Cards were led by Amanda Christianson, Karly Betterman and Kalli Bowser, who were all in double figures. Christianson posted a game-high 24, while Betterman had 14 and Bowser 13.
